The Genesis Scroll of “paper dolls” dance in a line with uplifted arms and eyes. It is a dancing line of the righteous and unrighteous portraying the rhythmic counterpoint that has animated the movement of human life since Adam and Eve left paradise.
Beginning with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and ending with Abraham and Sarah under the Oaks of Mamre, Carolyne Landon has created an art book of entertaining illustrations, maps, and informative and thoughtful commentary on the genealogy of Genesis. The Genesis Scroll: An Ancient Genealogy is inspired by her interest in the biblical narrative of Genesis, archeology, and ancient Middle Eastern myths and culture.
Various translations of the Jewish Tanakh, the Christian Old Testament and their commentaries, extra-biblical Jewish writings, and the art and literature of the ancient Middle East have influenced Landon’s commentary and inspired her artistic vision. A list of resources is included at the end of each of her commentaries to help point the reader to further study.
The illustrations and maps were painted digitally with stylus and tablet. Stone, clay, and metal artifacts of the ancient Middle East influenced the color and style of the illustrations, as did contemporary satellite images of the Earth.
This first edition of the Genesis Scroll features the genealogy from Adam to Noah and will be regularly updated to include 100 characters.
